Los Cabos, at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, is the most upscale of Mexico’s dental destinations. It covers two towns: lively Cabo San Lucas and quieter, artsier San José del Cabo. Expect higher prices than elsewhere in Mexico, but also easy flights, polished clinics and a beautiful place to rest.
Getting there
Fly into Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), with nonstop flights from many US and Canadian cities. San José del Cabo is about 15 minutes from the airport; Cabo San Lucas is around 45 minutes. Most clinics can arrange transport.
Documents
You’ll need a valid passport to fly to Mexico and back. Mexico issues tourist permits (FMM) on arrival by air, usually recorded digitally at immigration. Keep any paperwork you’re given until you leave.
Dental care in Los Cabos
Clinics in both towns serve a mix of tourists and the large community of American and Canadian residents. They’re often small, modern practices offering:
- Dental implants
- Veneers, crowns and cosmetic work
- Dentures
Prices are typically at the higher end for Mexico, so get quotes from a border-town clinic too if cost is your main concern.
Where to stay
- San José del Cabo: calmer, with a historic center, galleries and good restaurants. Ideal for recovery.
- The Tourist Corridor: resorts along the coast between the two towns.
- Cabo San Lucas: the marina, nightlife and boat trips.
Things to do while you recover
- San José del Cabo’s historic center: a gentle evening stroll, with a weekly art walk in season.
- El Arco: an easy boat ride from Cabo San Lucas to the famous rock arch.
- Whale watching: gray and humpback whales pass through in winter, roughly December to April.
- Pool and beach days: many beaches have strong surf, so choose a swimmable one or stick to the pool.
Safety in Los Cabos
Los Cabos is in Baja California Sur, which the US State Department currently rates “Exercise increased caution.” Use normal precautions in tourist areas, use licensed transport, and read the current State Department advisory before you go.
